Washington, DC (June 18, 2014) – Claudine Oriol, Haitian-American actress, director and producer, celebrated the world premiere screening of her documentary film, Resilient Hearts, on Sunday, June 15, 2014 the film an official selection of the AFI DC Caribbean FilmFest was screened at the AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD.
Prior to the screening, Claudine, stated, “It’s been an incredible and moving journey to work on Resilient Hearts during the past few years. I’m humbled by the support and praise the film has received from friends, associates, world leaders and dignitaries. I can’t imagine a more fitting backdrop for its world premiere than in our nation’s capital.”
Following the screening, the AFI moderated a dynamic and engaging question and answer series with Claudine and special guest, H.E. Paul Altidor, Ambassador of Haiti.
The film debuted to a crowd of more than 200 guests, and was well-received by the audience and film festival. Many attendees commented that this was one of the first times they saw Haitian people from all socioeconomic backgrounds represented.
Following the screening, Claudine commented, “I was pleased by all of the feedback and reactions from members of the audience.” She also added, “it was very important that her film told a story that goes beyond Haiti and the earthquake; and that Resilient Hearts tells a story about the human spirit which resonates with people around the globe.”
